Delicious and nutritious
Fruit is a natural part of a healthy, balanced diet. It provides a fantastic nutritional combination: low in fat, high in fibre, a whole range of vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Added to that are all those powerful antioxidants, like flavanoids (polyphenols which can be found in apples, pears, grapes, oranges…). Of course, we can eat them fresh, cooked, in juices, or dried. Some are sweet, some are tart or semi-tart, and some produce oil. Eating fruit will help us live longer. Rich sources of trace elements and vitamins, they are exceptionally good for us.
Many scientific studies back up the need to make fruits an important part of our diet. Eating a range of fruits (and vegetables) every day is the unanimous advice of all epidemiological studies if we want to protect ourselves against major illnesses (cancer, cardio-vascular disease etc.).
This section doesn’t claim to tell you about every single fruit and its therapeutic and medicinal properties.
However, you might find out about some of the powers that we can get from the fruits that come from our orchards, our markets, and our tables, every day.
PINEAPPLE beats cellulite?
Native American Indians were growing pineapples long before Christopher Columbus arrived on their shores. They are now grown in all tropical climates.
The pineapple is a herbaceous plant which grows to around 1m 20 tall, and is made up of lots of leaves growing out of a short stem planted in the ground.
The fruits grow in the centre of the crown of leaves.
The fruit has the shape of a fir cone, topped off with a green crown of leaves.
It can weigh between 0.7 and 2 kg. Its colour goes from green to orangey yellow when it’s ripe.
When it’s ripe, it gives off a lovely delicate, sweet smell. It contains between 10 and 15 % sugar, vitamins A, B and C, and is very easy to digest.
It contains an original enzyme, bromeline, which is capable of kick-starting and facilitating the digestion of proteins. For this reason, pineapples are used as a slimming aid, to get rid of cellulite, and to fight arteriosclerosis.
Materne has managed to capture all of its flavour to bring its exotic aroma to your table in a jam, and in a fruit juice, that you can savour to your heart’s content.
