Materne & our commitments History of the company
Materne-Confilux was founded in 1977, when two well-established companies joined forces.
Materne, founded in 1888 in Wépion by Edouard Materne, specialised in growing and distributing fruit. In 1938, one in every three Belgian families who bought jam, ate Materne jam.
And then there was Confilux, which began in 1928 when Albert Heymans bought an apple jelly sweet factory in Lustin s/ Meuse. The company was soon specialising in making jams and compotes.
Today, Materne-Confilux is one of the biggest manufacturers of jams and compotes in Europe.
Based in ultramodern premises in Floreffe (Province de Namur, Belgium) since 1980, Materne is Belgian’s market leader in jams and compotes.
Materne products are distributed throughout Belgium: you’ll find the jams and compotes in the grocery section, but we’re also in the fresh food aisle, with our 100% pure fresh fruit juices.
Materne also exports more than 60% of its output to our neighbours (Germany, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain), and all over the world (Canada, Saudi Arabia, Japan...).
Which makes us the largest exporter in the industry.
